Anne was born in Digby Nova Scotia on Dec 20
1934; having grown up in foster homes it was
necessary for Anne to enter the work force at
the age of 14. her culinary and entrepreneurial
skills were self -taught as she worked as a
diner owner, receptionist for a small business
and a convenience store proprietor. Anne is well
known in the area as a gifted cook who has
catered, banquets and weddings up to as many
as five hundred people at a time as well as many
social functions.
Anne married Gerry in Victoria, BC; they will be
married 53 years in November 2009 they have 6
wonderful children, 11 lovely grandchildren, and
one great granddaughter. They all mean the
world to Anne. When Anne married Gerry she
converted from her Baptist religion and joined
the Catholic Church. She has lived in various
provinces but New Brunswick has been her home
for 50 years. After being alone for many years,
now there are times she would like to be alone
for 5 minutes.
Anne has been a member of the CWL for 35 years
and an active member on committees over 20
years. She has chaired the Education,
Resolutions, Legislation, Community Life, been
1st Vice, 2nd Vice, Organization, President
Elect, and Parish President of Holy Family,
Bathurst, then Bathurst Diocesan President. Anne
has served on provincial as Education & Health
Chairperson and currently is chair
of Communications on provincial. She also serves
as 1st Vice President and Communications at the
Diocesan level. She humbly announces that she
received her Life Membership on April 25, 2010.
She was presented with the newly designed life
membership pin. She is the only life member in
New Brunswick for 2010 and the first in her
parish council Holy Family in their 75 years.
She attended the national convention in Ottawa
where Archbishop Martin Currie blessed all the
new life members.
Anne is a Eucharistic minister, serves
communion to sick and shut-ins serves at
masses, opens the church, prepares Sacristy for
Sunday Mass on a regular basis and organizes
Baptisms.
Anne has dedicated much of her life to
volunteer work. She has served as president of
the curling club as well as president for 2
years of the ladies section,of the curling
club. Anne has been a member of the Ladies
Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion for the
past 40 years where she served on many
committees such as Sergeant at arms and chair
of Blood donor Clinic. She was President of the
Ladies Auxiliary, was North Shore District
Council of the Ladies Auxiliary Royal
Canadian Legion, served on the executive of the
Gowan Brae Golf and Country club for 10 years.
One of Anne's proudest undertakings is the
establishment of the community dinner which
she organized and ran for 10 years before
turning over the reigns because of health
issues. Between 350 to 400 hundred needy and
lonely were served annually at noon on
Christmas day.
Anne enjoys a good game of golf, a warm cup of
tea among friends, baking treats for others to
enjoy and preparing meals for her loved ones and
still adds extra to the pot so some one who
needs a meal will have one.
